GB Positive

In these tough budget times, it is clear that no one person, or voter, could possibly know all of the positive things we do at UW-Green Bay. Not only is this campus one of the best things going in this region of the state, it is an absolute bargain based on the returns! I will leave the arguments and the negative for other spaces. Here, it’s all positive all of the time.

Wisconsin Small Business Development Center at UW-Green Bay Yes, go read about this resource and see how often the phrase “no cost” appears. I repeat, “no cost.” Being the book nerd that I am, I have a dream to open my own bookstore and bookmaking emporium. Now I know my first stop. If you venture out into our community, say the downtown area, you’ll find businesses that were created and now run by graduates of UW-Green Bay, including Breakthrough Fuel and The Gift Itself. Local businesses who have used the SBDC at UW-Green Bay include Machine+, Folkman Inc., Cineviz (coolest website ever), and Surgical Site Solutions,

Packer DayThe UWGB Packers Project Want a GB connection to a local business? How about the Green Bay Packers? This project, a fan-sourced history exhibit connected to the Green Bay Packers, was entirely built by three humanities students at UW-Green Bay. That’s right, humanities students know history! We are legion. Read the GB Press Gazette story here!

submit-buttonSheepshead Review Did you know that one of the best literary and arts magazines in the world is produced right here in Green Bay at UWGB? Sheepshead Review, which receives submissions from across the globe, is entirely managed and produced by UW-Green Bay students. Sheepshead Review, which can be taken as a class, draws students from Design Arts, English, and the Humanities and provides students on-the-job experience with editing and publishing, graphic design, social media, event promotion and management, and on and on. Are you a writer? Then follow the link and submit your work, as Sheepshead is published twice yearly. Are you interested in working on the journal? Then become a GB student and take the class. Former students and members of the Sheepshead team have gone onto secure employment at prestigious local companies like The Karma Group.

  1. Uw-Green Bay has a long history of serving nontraditional student populations. Over 30 years ago, Extended Degree allowed adults access to higher learning through classes offered on weekends or evenings. Today, the Adult Degree Program continues that tradition with online degree programs that also recognize and value class credits and associate degrees from technical and community colleges. Adult and distant learners are provided the support needed with dedicated advisors. UW-Green Bay valued these students long before they became a new target market, continuing our state’s history of “The Wisconsin Idea.”
